I've been hoarding fabrics ever since I bought a sewing machine a few months back, but I never attempted to sew anything wearable until now lol. I just completed my first-ever article of clothing: a maxi skirt with inverted box pleats and a ribbon waistband.

For more pics and a visual tutorial, visit http://tights-and-tea.blogspot.com/2012/07/diy-maxi-skirt.html.

If any of the steps are confusing, or if you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks!

Lovely skirt and tutorial.  Using ribbon for the waistband was a particularly good idea, It means you can use all of the fabric for the skirt and it accentuates a pretty waist.

Usually I'm not a maxi skirt kind of person, but seeing this sent me on a mad-dash to my fabric stash!  Cheesy
So gorgeous, love the fabric and the cut, looks so incredibly awesome!

How many pleats did you make here?
