Hi all!  I'm happy to share this because it's one of my more experimental ideas, but I love the way it turned out.  This is a dress I found at the thrift store and decided to alter to my liking.  Here's the before (although I had already removed the collar.....got excited!)

I removed the collor, cut the sleeves, cut the hem, and submerged this baby in a blue dye bath.

After it was done, I reattached the (still white) collar.  Et voila!

Just goes to show that a little DIY can go a long way.

As always, you can read more (and see an excess of photos) at my blog Smiley  http://www.roadtotheheart.com/2012/07/vintage-revamp-blue-haze.html

Very clever, especially leaving the collar undyed.  It has made it such a pretty dress when it was rather nothing before - and your hat goes perfectly.

I clicked on this from Facebook...lovely dress! So much cuter than the original. Also, small world, my boyfriend says he knows you from when you lived here in NYC.

Thanks everyone for the positive words!  Since making this and wearing it I've gotten a lot of comments to the tune of "how did you see the potential in that dress?"  I detail it a bit more in my blog at http://www.roadtotheheart.com/2012/07/vintage-revamp-blue-haze.html but basically:

  • 100% cotton
  • Peter pan collar
  • Princess seams
  • A-line skirt
All very promising qualities in a garment.  Thanks again  Smiley
