i'd like to use size 10.5 needles for a pattern I've made before that calls for size 8.
the pattern gauge is 18 stitches per 4". my swatch is 15 stitches per 4 "
how can i alter the pattern instructions (cast on number etc) for my larger stitches? I thought i could use a ratio (if say pattern is "cast on 93') :  15/18  = 93/x  Would that work? does anyone know any better??
thanks a lot  Cheesy

If you know what finished measurement you want, multiply your stitches per inch or the whole gauge by that and look for a smaller size  close to that many sts at the underarm. If you want 36", times your gauge that would be 135 sts around at the bust. It's a little easier to follow another size than make sure the math comes out right. But you would need to work the lengths (body, sleeves, armhole depth) to the same measurement given for the size you'd normally make.

If it's a top down raglan, it can be easier than that - CO for a size or two smaller, and do the incs until the back stitches measure half the finished measurement you need, then follow the rest of the directions.
