Vintage Button Display

This is a button display of some of my favorite vintage buttons. I chose each one just for it's aesthetic value and how it goes with the others around it. At one point, my little niece helped decide which ones would go on next, and where to put them. It was a fun little moment. The cloth it is on is an antique piece of linen that someone had done some needle working of circles on. A friend was having a yard sale and she had several of them that she wasn't sure she wanted to part with, but she sold me two of them. I wound up giving one to another friend who also collects buttons. Although none of the buttons are from my ancestors(unfortunately), the one in the top corner was made for me by endymion during a Jar of Whimseys craft swap here on craftster. The frame is a shadowbox from Michaels. I still have far too many buttons everywhere, but I am getting ready to make some hooplas and also destashing. Comments welcome!

This is a great idea for showing off unique and special buttons! I might have to do something similar!

I think it is very pretty. Not only a nice use of buttons but also of the linen embroidery. I guess someone spent a lot of time doing those little circles.  They show off the buttons very nicely.

Ok, I need that linen so I can do one, too. Any other fabric simply will not do. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled at rummage sales ...

What a beautiful way to pay homage to some very nice buttons!  What an amazing find--the linen with the circles!  Beautiful job...and so nice that you included your little niece...she will grow up to appreciate timeless treasures like these buttons.

Thanks sheepBlue, eldeflower, javaannie and alwaysinmyroom. I was wishing I could have bought a couple more pieces of the linen, but then I realized I could try to do something similar. I have a nice little book with needlework linen stitches very well explained, and I should really try to make something like this. It might be nice to make one from modern materials and put some of my newer(but still cool) buttons on it.

And alwaysinmyroom, I am making my niece a hoopla with her name spelled in buttons, so she can have a souvenir of the button discussion.

Oh, but endymion, it is one of the most special ones! That's why it is on the top row. It really means a lot to me that you put so much thought and effort into something for me! Being in this fun and generous community is the bright point of my year.
