I made these costumes for an opening exhibit at the SciFi Museum out here in Seattle.  I purchased XL mens sweaters from Goodwill, and cut them down/re-sewed to size.  For the insignias, I simply cut out cereal boxes in the right shape, glued on tin foil, and drew on them with Sharpie.  It was simple but it worked and everyone loved our costumes!

Oh and we even met some Klingons!  There costumes were amazzzzing:
