Mine cost $24 too - although I don't know if that's relatively more or less in Australian dollars? Still, it's a lot. I was less than 20grams from it costing $36 instead though - yikes!

When I went in to Aus post earlier in the week to get a ballpark figure for postage they quoted me about $75 AU$.   I'm hoping that it'll work out a little cheaper than that when I go in tomorrow!!!! but when i check online, their quote is between $37.50 AU $ for up to 20kg air mail??!! so have printed it out and will try and figure out the descripancy.....

I sent out earlier today! Here's a tip so you gals won't get a huge shock at the PO: get your PO's price list for the different weights and weigh your package at home. I always do this, and I try to keep a little below the upper limit of a weight range so that there won't be any problems with differences in the scales being used. Also, if you weigh all your projects as you finish them, you get a better idea of how much you'll be spending on postage as you work. If you have an idea of what weight (and price) you're aiming for, you can focus your efforts on the items you really want to make and are most weight-efficient. Also, extras are great, but I try to add them only if I know I've got extra weight I can still use in the weight range I have in mind. (Also, there's a thread on international swapping tips in the talk about the swap process board that has more tips about swappping internationally)

Thanks for the tips, zzdia.  I hadn't thought of weighing at home or looking up prices for shipping.  I was stunned at the PO, though.  I was expecting to spend $30 or so, but my total was $50.  I bought some last minute things that no doubt tipped the scales . . .  I had other things to ship as well, so I walked out with light pockets!

Yep! I just ran the numbers and could have saved $20 if I hadn't added those extras!  Lesson learned!!!

I think that just means that you can post up to 20kg via air mail, the prices go crazy high pretty quickly. Luckily I haven't sent anything over a kilo before but... yeah... :S There is a "postage calculator" on the Aust. Post site that's always been right for me, you put in the destination and weight range and it will tell you what each mail type will cost you.

Looks like i am the only one that knows 30th Sept is on a Sunday - AS ITS MY BIRTHDAY. 
I am (impatiently) waiting for my package to arrive from the US.

Oh, y'all are going hate me, I made 2 medium/large-ish and three smalls, my materials were so light weight that my package is going to cost about $3 to mail in a soft mailer. *hides from rotten tomato throwers*
