can't... stop... crafting...

A very good friend of mine celebrated her birthday on Sunday and I wanted to make her something really special. Via a rather circuitous inspiration process, I came up with the idea for a fairy doll based on her personality and appearance. Meet Flelph:

She is 18" tall and made from felt. I developed the pattern and costume myself and had a fabulous time playing with beads and trim and wire, oh my! I constructed a support stand for the doll - can't let those pretty little legs get all bent and misshapen! - as well as a velvet-lined display box.

As is usually the case, I got totally carried away and before I knew it there was a tiara (for my friend to wear) and a fairytake storybook to go along with the doll, both also in their own display box.

It took me a month of solid work in every spare moment I had and I absolutely enjoyed every single second of it. Birthdays are my favourite excuse to craft Grin

(There are a lot more pictures hosted at my crafting journal for anyone who is interested.)

OMG!  She is beautiful!  I don't think I could imagine a more perfect fairy doll.  Her face, her clothes, her hair and little antennae.  She even has fingers and a ring!  Wow!  I am very impressed.  You have a very lucky friend indeed.  Wow!

I am in awe that she was entirely handmade.  The details are fabulous and she is absolutely beautiful.

That's exquisite. I can't fathom making something like that out of felt. Lovely, lovely job.

I love it!  I've made dolls for years but thats amazing!!!

There are 3 kinds of people in this world...those who want things to happen, those that make things happen, and those who just wonder what the hell happened!
