I hope this question/discussion point makes sense. As I've been swapping I've been running into a very wee dilemma: wanting to post swap projects elsewhere (not on Craftster) as works in progress or as soon as I am finished with them. This is a problem for me because I love the element of surprise with swapping & am so nervous about ruining that for my partners. I've seen other people, including myself, including a note in their signature links to be wary of spoilers on external sites like blogs or FB pages, but I'm still finding myself unsure about it.

So, I guess it sums up as this:
Do you, as the sender, post your swap projects on outside pages before they have been received by your partner(s), either as WIP or finished pieces? Why or why not?
Do you, as the receiver, take any steps to avoid seeing spoilers of what is being made for you? Why or why not?

I wouldn't post them prior to receipt because I frequent a number of other craft sites too. It never occurred to me that other people might, so I've never avoided looking. I will think about it next time I'm in a swap though.

I never post mine before receipt.  For me, it's more important to maintain the surprise for my partner than it is for me to post for my own gain.  I LOVE a good surprise!

As a receiver, I don't do anything to avoid accidentally running across projects, especially if they're on Craftster.  I'm simply all over the place and it cannot be avoided, unfortunately.

Thanks for your opinions! Smiley

I don't want to post them elsewhere for gain, like selling patterns or wanting to sell similar items or anything, I just want to share them with friends I know elsewhere, & I just get so excited to share things once I finish them & have pics taken. I think I will stick to my current compromise, not posting on anything linked to here (for me, my FB page) & only sharing it through completely unrelated means & forums.

Oh, I know!  I just meant gain as in my own personal happiness. Cheesy  It's sooo hard to keep them a secret, so I totally understand your feeling!

oK, I thought so but I just wanted to clarify! Cheesy I haven't had too much trouble waiting until this last one when I have had a friend pestering me for pictures, lol. It just got me thinking about the whole thing.

I wouldn't post then on here until after the your partner received them, but I don't see anything wrong with posting else where.Yes, someone might accidentally see a work in progress, but their are fair worse things  Tongue

I'm looking for wrist watches or old clocks. Broken or working, doesn't matter! I will swap anything you would like.

Strange I post everything on Ravelry as I'm working on it. I have a terrible memory and I'm documenting what yarn I used, what needle size, how long it took me for the project, and I store photos there so I don't loose them.

Sad Maybe I should stop doing this, but I put all my knitted projects on Ravelry especially while they are WIP.

I vary - I don't post on here until items are received (at least I try not to), but I will post on my blog.  I sometimes will set it up and set up a deferred publishing time for a few weeks, so I don't have a huge backlog of things to post about.

I don't post on my blog until after my partner receives---which is really hard when I am dying to post about it! But, since I have my FB fairly restricted, and I as of yet, don't have Craftster peeps on my Friend's list there, I feel free to share pics on FB. But, since I was really bogging ppl down with crafts on FB, I try to just put them on my blog, and then post a link to that to FB. But, keeping it off Pinterest, etc is really hard.....

I'll post to my own FB page if my swap partner is not a FB friend. Otherwise I hold off.
