Having trouble with Zig Zag feature of my Singer 648 Touch and Sew. The machine will pick up the bobbin thread on the right side, but when the needle moves back to the left it misses the bobbin thread. Any Ideas?? Huh

I would try these steps:
--make sure it's threaded properly, and the bobbin is inserted in the right direction.
--clean and oil the machine, especially checking for lint and thread clogging up the bobbin case and housing.  (If you're like most people, the machine needs cleaning and oiling anyway)
--change the needle.  Try a larger or smaller needle.
--Try different fabric weights.
--Try different threads, making sure top and bobbin threads match.
If, after all that, you are still having the same problem, it could quite likely be the timing.  I fixed the timing on my machines using a book from the library (MUCH easier than I'd always heard); you may be able to find the info online by googling your model number.
