p.s. it's also sort of quilted, soft and layered, but with a hard board back in somehow (how?), really well finished, and oh also note the stars stitched on, hard to see but great.
In answer to the how (and when/if my other partner Likls reads this I did hers the same way)
I cut out a papertowel tracing of the inside circle of my hoop and cut that out.
I then use that template and trace the circle on thinnish cardboard, like a goldfish crackers box, and then cut that out.
Next I pin the papertowel template to my fabric and thinnish quilt batting.
I place the finished stitchery in hoop for placement and cut the "extra" fabric so approx. and inch is left all around.
The quilt batting circle gets place right onto the back of the stitching
2 reasons for the batting 1) It gives a fun 3D effect 2)It helps what ever box I used to not show through the actual stitch fabric.
Important step: Now make sure the cardboard circle fits snugly in the hoop. Just gently push down until it pops under the hoop. Then "pop" it back out. This is a good time to make cutting adjustments if I'm off...sometimes I'm WAY off.
Then, I take the card board circle and spray w/ spray adhesive and place fabric over that. Fold under any extra fabric.
Final stretch....
Get out the double sided tape and cover the inside of the hoop with the batting inserted.
Cut some snips all around the inch of main fabric for folding it over the double sided tape.
When that's all accomplished I pop the fabric covered cardboard circle in and go and have a candy bar!
More than likely there is an easier way to do it, but this seems to work for me. The steps are small enough I can do a few and then step away to defuse a kid argument.
