I bought this HORRIBLE pink prom dress for $ 1 at a garage sale and remade it.

I removed the top part of the sleeves and took out the netting at the upper edges and about 4" of lace and reattached them to eliminate the poofiness.

I opened up the center seam of the dress and lifted out the section of satin batwings stuffed with netting.

I used the fabric from the satin batwings removed from the center of the dress to make a purse.

I did not use a pattern for the purse-- I just took the satin from the batwings and made a rectangle/pocket, put a piece of poster board inside the lining to stiffen it a bit, folded it and attached closures.

I then added the bow from the back of the original dress as accent--then added a vintage pin!

I recently wore this dress and purse to a wedding and got rave reviews!

I found a Neiman Marcus ad of a similar pink lace dress at it is selling for $ 395. Ha--I don't think so!!  Roll Eyes

Several gals said they liked this one better than the NM dress.  Roll Eyes

Being busy with this type of refashioning and sewing keeps me out of trouble--well kinda   Smiley

The pre-makeover pics made me lol! Why did we ladies ever think it was ok to leave the house in something like that  Cheesy (waves fist in the air at the 1980's  Grin)

I saw the thumbnail and thought, "I can't believe someone made that"!!  I was so relieved to see it was the "before" picture.  What a great make over!  I agree with the others that said that I need to use a little more imagination when I shop.
Although speaking of the 80's, it kind of reminds me of "Pretty in Pink".  Cheesy

What can I say? I'm impressed. I would not have seen the nice dress in the strange old one and would have passed it in the store.

It looks soooo much better now! And the fit is fantastic.  The purse also makes a nice touch.

Stop being so damned positive. Staring at the sun only blinds some one. By only looking at the positive, you miss an entire beautiful world of shadows and colors. Don't be overly negative, be realistic. The world is so much more complex and beautiful that way.

I love this! Wish I could find $1 stuff at my local thrift store...
