Godspell is a musical, 70's take on the Gospel. My sister recently saw it on Broadway and brought me back a t-shirt, so I decided to do something inspired by Godspell for my first Craftster challenge! I had intended to do the whole face with the right side being mostly black, but I had to go out of town for a week so I wouldn't have had time to do it all. But I still like the way it looks as half of a face! I've never done chalk art or any project at such large a scale (just the nose is a little over 5 feet long), so this was definitely a learning experience for me! Hope you all like it!

Progress Pictures!!

Day 1

Aren't Mississippi summers wonderful? Almost 95 degrees in the shade. Fantastic.

Day 2

Day 3

Day 4

Day 5

Day 6 (Complete!!)

Materials!

~10 white sticks of sidewalk chalk and between 75 and 100 of board chalk (they don't sell white sidewalk chalk by itself)
~10 red
~10 purple
~3 yellow
~4 blue
~5.5 green
~7 chunks of drawing charcoal
~4 willow charcoal sticks
~about 10 chunks of cooking charcoal (as artists charcoal in such a large amount would have been quite expensive)

Thanks for the compliments! I've been thinking about setting aside art for a while, especially with the new school year coming up, but all your comments are very encouraging!

This is beautiful! It's not something we could attempt out here I'm afraid, daytime brings us nice enough weather, but it does rain at night, so all our work would be washed away the next day and we'd never be able to finish a piece this big.

Amazing! You've really embraced the working outside idea! It must have been so difficult to get the proportions right, but you've done it perfectly.

Agree this rocks. Lucky it didn't rain. I wonder if there is some temporary sealer you could put over it. I know the nature of sidewalk art is temporary, but it would be nice to have it last a little while. Yes, keep up with your art. This is amazing.
