And look what was waiting when I arrived home:

Sketchbook, sleeping bag, pencil and instructions.

The book measures 7" tall and 5" wide. And you can see the pages are stapled in - yay for those who plan to take pages out and do something different.

And yes, it is 8 pages so first page, last page and 15 2-page spreads. You can add to the book (as the instructions explain) but it must fold back to the original dimensions. It can't exceed 1" when finished and closed.

I'm probably sitting this year out as well, but I can't wait to meet the 2012 sketchbooks in November. I still want to follow this thread along though Smiley

missed the 2012 - got the book did nothing with it - so waiting to see I'm up for it this year - I think the theme I picked last year tripped me up in the end.

but thinking about going back to it in 2013 - thanks for posting the thread - should help me focus <G>

I added the new themes in the first post - once again, I wish I had waited to choose. But I chose 'chapbook' which seemed like it would be the most open to my collecting stuff and making a book. Now I like some of the new ones better - I can always change but I am determined to finish this one (as well as 2012) and send them in on time.

Hope some more Craftsterers join in!

I might have to jump on board with this. I've been wanting to do the sketchbook project since I learned about it last year.

Another push to get folks to join! Please do it!

The Sketchbook Project Needs You
We need your help: We started The Sketchbook Project six years ago with the vision of encouraging everyone to participate in art-making and be inspired by a creative community working toward the same goal. We feel proud that we have achieved that mission. We've shared your work on four tours across the continent. And we've collaborated with over 60,000 artists worldwide to archive a collection of more than 22,000 sketchbooks in the Brooklyn Art Library.

It's only with your help that we can complete this process. The Sketchbook Project only exists because of its participants. In order to preserve its equal-opportunity spirit and independent charm, we have made sure that the majority of what we build is funded by the contributing artists. Each year's project is about 18 months of work for our tiny crew from the initial planning stages to the final tour dates. Our team of seven people works incredibly hard to keep the project going.

Waiting for a reason to join us? This is it. Without you, the project cannot continue to inspire others and share your creativity with communities around the world. The project is expensive to produce and maintain. Of course, we work hard because this is a labor of love but we also need to have the resources to make this project sustainable. That is why The Sketchbook Project needs you. In order to maintain our standards, grow our public programs and fund next year's tour, we need a minimum of 20,000 participants to take part. Already, more than 6,000 people from all over the world have signed up to participate. Please help us reach our goal of 20,000 creative people working together.

For those of you who are already participating, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We could not do this without you! We'll continue to archive your book, share it with the public, and make every effort to fulfill our commitment to the project. Please help spread the word to family, friends and anyone else who you think would enjoy our unique creative experience.

We cannot wait to see where this project can go! We'll do our part, if you do yours. Together, we can save The Sketchbook Project!

Thanks,

Steven and the Art House staff

I looked into this sketchbook project a couple of years ago but never did it. You know, I should just dive right in and challenge myself. What a fun way to break the creative ice this would be.

Unfortunately, I think it's too late to sign up. And the due date is January 15th to send back to ArtHouse Coop.

I have started my book for this year (and no, I haven't finished 2011 yet! Maybe over Christmas break). I selected "Chapbook" for my theme which is a small pamphlet or book, a Victorian-era 'zine, let's say, to give a simpler definition. So far, I am filling pages with the ephemera of my life - pages with stamps (from envelopes/swaps I have received), pages with bus transfers, pages with stickers I've found, and a set of pages with other found items from walking around San Francisco. Not terribly exciting but I am having fun cleaning off my desk and coffee table and using some of the stuff I hoard/collect/accumulate.

I would join this one, love the idea, but live in NZ so would never get to see any of them especially mine as could get the normal book but can't really afford the digitized one...especially as nz dollar is worth less than American so even more expensive...but love the concept and wish I could visit the travelling library of them, they would be awesome to see.

Have fun everyone!
