This was a painting I donated for a rather large fishing event, it was a super fancy dinner for all the big-wigs of the fishing world. Aaaand scored myself and my boyfriend free tickets to the event. Ahem, that's right, $150 dinner tix for FREE.
'Tis a walleye

Just another wolf.

My boyfriend is originally from South Africa, he lived there till he was 13. In Africa there is the "Big Five". These are the animals that are considered the hardest to hunt on foot. They are the Black Rhino, the lion, the African Elephant, the Leopard and the Cape Buffalo.

And some foxes.

All of these are painted with acrylics on either peacock wing feathers, turkey wing feathers or turkey tail feathers. All legal, of course.

OH MY GOD!!!! I am speechless! These are amazing! Is it hard to paint on the feathers? It seems like the feather would move around and distort the image.

In their own right these paintings are frickin' awesome but the fact they are painted onto feathers blows me away. Great job!

I am also blown away. I am curious though, do you use like a glue to stiffen the feathers first or just paint on the feathers au natural?

Thank you everyone for the kind words! =D

I use a clear matte fixative spray before and after the painting. It helps to stiffen the feather up a bit, and just generally protects it.
