Thanks everyone for all you great comments.

Sorry as Ihaven't checked this thread for awhile but if anyone is still interested the pattern used was New Look 6020 - my most favourite pattern

2 others I want to try also are Simplicity 2886 and 2444 (I think I have a definite style I like  Tongue)

Good luck to everyone trying their hand at reconning bedsheets to dresses - you will never go back  Grin
