New Abandoned Toy! Gotta say I love this one!

I found this toy rabbit after the flea market. It was really badly made, all of the features were glued on and it was stuffed with polystyrene! Horrible stuff. Had to make sure not to get it everywhere when I destuffed it.

Here he is before the transformation, with another toy I found the same day:

I stuck the skin through the washing machine and it gave it a really cool distressed look, all the fur matted together in clumps. I tried to dye it blue, but the fur is a high polyester blend so it didn't really take, it just dulled down the bright pink and yellow nicely.

I've been wanting to sculpt an entire face for a while. I used Milliput 2 part epoxy clay to sculpt with and added resin teeth that I found on ebay. My mailman must get worried sometimes haha.

I added a metal loop into the back of the features to sew them onto the face, then I used superglue to make them lay flatter and blend in more.

I added some applique card suits before I sewed him back up, and sewed some pipecleaners into his ears to make them poseable and stand up.

He looks terrified!  And FABO all at the same time.  I think he really does look like he was horribly abandoned.  And though it looks like he is not quite used to his real face, he is settling in Grin

Fantastically imaginative transformation! I envy those that can look at something as innocent as a toy and see a creepy little creature inside.

Thanks guys. I love making these. It's especially rewarding to transform cheap, throwaway toys like this into something cool. I picked this one up out of pity, I had no idea what I was going to do with it! Once it was stuffed with a decent stuffing (I used foam chunks on this one, it makes him feel delightfully lumpy  Grin ) it felt like a much better quality toy. I despise polystyrene stuffing. It makes a horrible noise when you squeeze it too. Not very huggable for a soft toy.  Sad

I'm on my own little mission to save the world one toy at a time Smiley

Whoa, this bunny is even crazier looking than the bear--love the sculpted eyes and mouth!  And the March Hare was wise to put all the playing card suit symbols on his chest, that way he can claim loyalty to whatever faction he runs across.

A lot of carnival prizes have that polystyrene stuffing--probably 'cuz it's cheaper to do.  I agree it's not the best choice, and it doesn't feel as nice.  I have a big Gremlins 2 plush Mohawk that was made that way, but I love him anyway.

Yeah I can imagine it's cheaper. The polystyrene is so fine it could be blown in with a nozzle so would be really easy and cheap to stuff that way. This rabbit was FULL of the stuff. You can see from the before pic how tightly packed it was.

If your plush ever bursts a seem and starts leaking, I'd recommend using a vacuum to empty out the polystyrene and then refill him with other stuffing. Makes the world of difference. Smiley
