I noticed the dress form!! Cheesy  You deserve it!

wow--such progress!  I just received my Knit Noro book and hope to buy yarn next week while on vacation...I am definitely going to tackle something wearable, other than a scarf or hat!

Your sweaters are just so inspiring and lovely!  Can't wait to see the hood...

Thanks! I love knitting things to wear. Hats are still one of my favorite things, but I think sweaters are starting to win, lol.

I had no idea how much more yarn it takes to do a sweater...it is a big commitment!

I need 12 skeins of Noro to make the sweater I want!!  Holy cow...I better be sure I am up for the task!

Is there a yarn you could substitute that comes in larger skeins, that way you won't feel like you're buying so much?

It is!  Since it would be only my fourth sweater ever, I am torn between using a less expensive yarn but with all of the time and work, I want to be happy with it!

I usually give in with my yarn, lol, because like you I figure I want to be happy with it. I did substitute on my first sweater to make it cheaper, though. I still used a nice yarn (Cascade Eco Wool) but the skeins were so big that I only put about $40 into it (only hahaha... but it's yarn! it was worth it, lol).

Malabrigo has a pretty yarn that you might be able to substitute, and it takes the price down a bit, it's their Silky Merino. I have a couple skeins, but have not knit with it yet. And Webs started carrying Cascade Yarns Casablanca which is a wool/silk/mohair blend. It's 220 yards a skein. And I saw on ravelry that some people substituted with Malabrigo Worsted.

I do check ravelry to see what others use and how it turned out for them...my LYS gives $25 for each $100 spent, so that would help out the cost as well...I am going to Michigan to visit my sister...there is a LYS there that she is going to take me to...I thought about making the short cardigan but it takes just about the same amount of yarn!

Yeah, if you're going to make a sweater, don't compromise on the pattern you love. Even if you did find a sweater that takes less yarn,  but if you don't love it, you might not enjoy making it. What keeps me going on making sweaters (because I get bored quickly, lol) is #1, absolute love of the pattern. #2, cannot wait to wear it, because the finished project is something I will love wearing. #3, I love the yarn I'm working with (color, texture, etc).

Your tips are much appreciated and I agree! Grin  I would rather have made one fabulous thing, saving my money for the nice yarn, than to have three of four of stuff that sits in my closet for the same price!
