I was in The Hobbit Swap last month and knew immediatly what I wanted to create! I've seen a few Smaugs with treasures and thought a little treasure chest would be the perfect podium!

I used one of those plain wooden boxes (cuz its just more economical lol). I painted the outside metallic red and copper. I then found this small roll of snake-like fabric that looked like I imagined Smaug's skin to look like! I wrapped that around the outer bottom. I was looking for gold ribbon and found gold ric-rac. I used that as embellishment and a gold key charm to finish it off.

Now, Smaug I made out of poly clay. I then painted him and added the rhinestones for his eyes and the jewels that his belly was encrusted in from years of sleeping on his treasure!

For his stash, I had several little random gem-like whimsies and just twisted some gold ric-rac for extra gold lol! And because it just didn't have enough glitter, I made some glittery glass pebbles to embellish further lol!

On the inside, I added a bit of sparkly felt to the bottom to protect the treasures and painted this simple design I saw on pinterest!

It's a minimalist pic of Gandalf, Bilbo, and the 13 dwarves!!  Wink

I hope you all enjoy and feel inspired to try your own dragon nest!

A brilliant wee treasure box. I love the sparklies on his belly.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.
