The old deck in front of our house was showing its age. As in, people started falling through it. So, we ripped it up, and used the pieces that were ok to make some great new stuff for the garden.
The deck. Doesn't look to bad, but it was weetbix underneath.
All gone and the pile of wood to the side.
Flash new wishing well. I did post this when I made it.
We then cut down this massive camphor tree that shaded ours, and both our neighbors back yards.
And used the decking to make a table to go on the stump. Approx 2 meter diameter. (6'8" I think)
All cleaned up. In this pic, you can also see the planter boxes I made from the rest. We have a terraced yard, and these are to stop the kids riding their bikes off the 1meter drop.
Thanks for looking. Hubby helped a bit, but I did most of it while he was at work and our daughter was having naps.
Planter box how to...
Cut 16 pieces of decking the size you want your box. Mine were 40cm long.
Then, cut 8 pieces the length of the height of 4 of the first pieces together. Mine were 40cm again, an my decking was 10cm wide. (i really hope that made sense.) These are nailed or screwed onto the other pieces to make 4 sides for the planter. One side is level, while the other side hangs over enough to be as wide as 2 thicknesses of decking. Mine was 3cm as my decking was 1.5cm thick.
Put 2 sides together at a time. Use one flush side and on overhanging side to make a corner. Then put the 2 pieces together. Use screws or nails attach them.
If you want to make a little fence to go between each box, cut 2 pieces of decking the width you want your fence, then a few pieces to uses as pailings, you may need 3, 4 or more depending on how wide your fence is. Screw the pailings onto the rails. Also, screw or nail a piece of decking onto two sides of the box, these need to have a space as wide as your decking is thick, so your fence slides in like a puzzle.
Last is the top. Cut 4 pieces, and miter the corners. The dotted line is the box underneath. Screw them on top.
We have potted plants inside our boxes, so they are easy to move around, but you could put a bottom on them and fill them with soil.
I really hope you understand this, I am happy to answer any questions you have.
