A few months ago my Grandparents gave me an amazing lampstand with an oversized shade. My great uncle had handmade the stand!! and my parents didnt want to take it off them when they moved house (downsizing) so I got the hand-me-down! I was super grateful but the shade was in dire need of a revamp as it had a tear in it, so until now its been hiding in my back bedroom. Now it is on full show in the living room!! Its super bright and colourful and goes well with the electic mix of furniture. Also check out my cheeky sheepblue etsy purchase on the shelf too (cool cat card), we own a very cool black cat and it reminds me of him
I took the old cover off the stand and it was made out of 4 identical pieces, so I carefully chopped one of them out and used it as a template. You can see how boring and old it looked!
I stitched the 4 pieces together then tested it on the frame to see if it fit.
I stitched fringing and rickrack onto the bottom and a matching lilac trim to the top aswell. I had picked the fringing up in a bulk load from a sale in a fabric warehouse a few years ago and the rickrack is vintage from a house clearance.
Action Shot! it was quite difficult to stretch the fabric on, I ended up stitching one side to the frame before being able to pull the otherside down. Does anyone else ask santa for an extra arm every year??
The fabric with the apple print is one that I've screen printed a little while ago and the green with the white flowers is an old dress I'd picked up at a jumble, amazing fabric but awful dress!!
the pretty floral is from *ahem* ikea (couldnt help myself it was too cute!) and the spotty one was left over from a dress I made a little while ago.
Looking back through the pictures I could do with straightening up the fabric on the frame, but I do love it personally
let me know what you think
