I made these 6 little collages...

They're just small, around 3", made with scraps of paper and words cut out of the most fantastic old trashy book which is crammed with lovely phrases.

BUT... there's more to this story than just 6 little collages.

A year or so ago I left some tiny books around my town for strangers to find. A very short while ago, I left some toadstools. Then, on Sunday, one of my favourite arty fellas, Michael DeMeng, started a facebook group for creative folks to post their art abandoning missions and I was inspired to do it all over again.

So those little collages were packaged up, ready to be given up to the fates to find their rightful owners.

This time (unlike the other items which had had no contact information at all) there is a tag on the package which has an email address that the finders can write to, revealing the fate of the little gifts. There is no name or other revealing information... just an email addy and the promice that the message will be passed along.

While placing one of the packages tonight a storm was quickly blowing in. There was literally forks of lightning in the sky that stopped me in my tracks, but being totally brave and not a scaredy cat at all, the package was placed.

Tonight I got a message from the finder of that package! Part of it reads: "I am an artist as well and currently trying to find my way back to my artistic roots. Ironically I was just taking a break from cleaning out my "studio"...and voila! A gift. It couldn't have been timed any better. The element of surprise and the joy of having faith in the universe."

Please consider doing this... just once. You'll be amazed at how good it is for the soul.

In case you're interested, here's a better look at the collages....

ETA: A second reply!

"My 4 year old daughter and I went in to the No Frills in xxxx to get a few things and when I went to grab a flyer, there was this sweetly wrapped tiny package. I read the tag aloud to my little one and an employee that was in awe that someone would leave a gift like that, for a stranger to find. I opened it and fell in love with the magical, whimsical piece of art that was inside!! My daughter also fell in love with it so I gave it to her. You have made her super happy (as well as me) and it made a good opportunity to teach her what a random act of kindness is. Now, she plans to pay it forward and leave some gifts of her own art around town, for someone else to enjoy."

I'm going to look for placed packages on my walk to work this morning!  Who knows what the universe has left for me to find.  I love the story of inspiration.

And of course the collages are gorgeous!  Do you know which one he found?

I don't! I have no idea which piece is in which package or who finds which one.

Those are lovely. I love the idea of putting them out with an email address on.

Are the little frames bought or are they upcycled from something else?

Love it and will absolutely join the group. We travel from Toronto to Essex county to Michigan to BC so what fun it will be to leave little arty things hither and yon, lol. Wonderful work, as usual.

These are amazing and what an awesome idea. I really want to consider doing this. Do you mind sharing what is on the tag and paper that is attached? I have seen people doing this or doing other random acts of kindness......I always wonder without any explanation how do people know they can take it! ha ha

Thanks again for sharing!

Do you mind sharing what is on the tag and paper that is attached?

Not at all.

The top tag says: PICK ME UP & OPEN ME. Hurry before someone else does!

The second tag says " "Dear stranger, This gift has been left in the hopes that someone rather nice will have the curiosity to pick it up, open it, and enjoy it. Hopefully you think enough of my little gift to take it home. If you'd like to let me know the fate of this little package you can send a message to **insert anon email address here** and it will be passed along to me. xoxo Me"

This is awesome and inspiring! I once made some hand painted hair clips and left them around IKEA to share I always wondered who might have taken then or if they just got put in lost and found LOL Cheesy I never knew there were actual groups for that sort of thing! Love that you added a story with them and neatly wrapped em up and have an email for feedback! It makes me want to give it a try too! They are lovely.

It sounds like fun! I love the concept of found art! Lately I've been going for late night bike rides (It's the only time of day cool enough to ride right now Wink ) and it occurred to me that I could do this and leave them places while I ride. I haven't read through the whole thread yet, but what sorts of places did you place them in? Indoors, outdoors? Out in the open or somewhat hidden?

Thanks for the inspiration!

Do you mind sharing what is on the tag and paper that is attached?

Do you mind if I use your text? I think it's nicely worded (and better than anything I could come up with).

Thanks very much all  Kiss

what sorts of places did you place them in? Indoors, outdoors? Out in the open or somewhat hidden?

These were hidden outside in areas with loads of foot traffic. I've done a few projects where objects get 'hidden' and like best of all to leave things in places I like. I've left items in the local Legion after a nice pancake breakfast, in the nature centre in a local park, my favourite grocery store, in front of and behind my favourite shops. It's best to leave items in the open and in areas with quite a few people. There's a lure to leave things on a quiet road but they take AGES to get picked up, if they do at all.

Do you mind if I use your text? I think it's nicely worded (and better than anything I could come up with).

Absolutely! Go for it and happy abandoning Smiley
