I spied this material at Fabricland from across the store, was thrilled to see it was on super-sale, and happily brought it to the cutting table.  The lady said, "what are you planning with this?  It's an upholstery material." and eyed me suspiciously.  "Upholstering", I said.  Uh NO!  Clearly I'm going to make it into a super cute skirt, so just :p Fabricland lady.  It functions fabulously as a skirt material

Very nice choice! Sometimes the fabric-cutting ladies are nosy and negative with the fabric choices. Feel free to be honest or shrug it off, just don't be ashamed of that skirt. Work it, it's SO adorable on you.

Quite a few of my favorite me-made pieces are upholstery fabric! My absolute favorite dress (and most of my family's... seriously, everyone commented on it) is a medium-weight upholstery fabric. I recommend med-weight upholstery fabric over shirting or quilting cottons for new sewers or anyone. It just wears so nice, drapes a little but has a little body and washes perfectly. *sigh*

I think it looks great. And fabric is fabric. What is she, the fabric guru? Need you seek her advice and inspiration? I think not! Look at what you made!

I use "upholstery weight" fabric for ALL kinds of things. I especially like making bags out of them. Holds up nice. And if you're looking for fabric for a skirt or dress that's going to get a lot of wear, it's much better than some other options.
