Okay, so when I asked my dad what he wanted for Father's Day, he said "a brain cake." This is my second 'fancy' cake to make, and this one was MUCH more difficult than the piano cake (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=409143.0). One day, I hope to make this cake again because there are many mistakes. I wanted to make the brain part out of strawberry cake so that it wouldn't show through the icing, but Dad wanted chocolate. Also, the chocolate cake stained the fondant at the bottom when I was carving the brain part, so I'll have to be careful to avoid that next time. And I know the face is a little too yellow, but all I had to work with was red and yellow food coloring. Any more red would have been orange, and it's not quite as yellow in real life is it looks in the picture. If any one has tips for getting a good flesh tone, it would be much appreciated! So yeah, lots of room for improvement, but I'm mostly pleased with the result.

Chocolate coffee cake, buttercream icing, and marshmallow fondant all made completely from scratch.

This is hilarious!

Though I think I might feel a little odd about eating brains!
