Hogwarts Castle in a bubbling cauldron pin cushion

For the othpt3 swap I decided to make my partner jennieingram something useful and decorative.  I sculpted her a miniature Hogwarts castle and cauldron.  The castle was done in different stages.  The buildings individually and the courtyards.  After that I placed them all on the cliffs and re-baked. The hardest part was getting the cauldron right.  The limits for the swap are 4x4.  The cauldron is 3 1/2 wide and the whole thing is 4in high.  I had a hard time putting in enough definition so you look at it and know what it is with out driving myself crazy in the tiny details.  After completing and baking all the pieces I painted them and aged the cauldron. Sealed them and placed floral foam and batting covered by lime green fabric inside the cauldron.  Then took long straight pins and glued green beads and stars to the ends to look like bubbles. I love how it turned out and had a hard time letting it go, but knowing it was going to another HP fan helped ease the pain.  Plus now I can make another one knowing what I know now for myself.

I'm still in awe of your creation! It's just so fabulous I can't hardly stand it. Did you use white clay and paint it the colors you needed, or did you use brown and gray? Also what brand did you use? Is the cauldron clay as well? Sorry for all the questions. I've admired clay crafting for so long and just started trying it out this year, and I'd love to do something similar to this. It's just wonderful!!

I havent been working with clay for very long and i normally prefer fimo but they hard sculpey3 on sale so thats what i used.  I did use white clay and then paint it and the cauldron is clay as well. I made a aluminum base for the cauldron and the formed the clay around it.  I used metallic creams that  i have had forever to age the cauldron.  I also baked it in stages so to not damage what i already made while working on another part. I also put petroleum jelly on the baked pieces and then added the fresh clay to  it. I hoped that helped i dont have a ton of knowledge in this craft but i will share what i have.  Good luck!
