Help with gluing delicate earrings?

I just made a few adorable earring sets, like these little cherries. I used the pictured glue to attach them to the earring posts, which worked well enough, but when I went to put on and take off the earring backs the cherries came off because the stupid backs were too tight and hard to pull off.

What is the best glue for attaching these kinds of things? The cherries are really small and easy to break. I know E6000 is popular but I couldn't find any when I bought this glue, and I've used it on lots of other things and it worked fine, but nothing this small.

Also, is there any way I can loosen these earring backs? I bought them on etsy and I didn't know they'd be so hard to take off, my fingers are sore just from trying. :/ I'll probably end up just buying those plastic backs.

I would be worried about the same thing happening or them coming off.  I would almost rather put them in a flat backing that is more secure, or embed them in a small bit of resin or something.

I have a love/hate relationship with that glue.  When it works it is amazing, when it doesn't, you want to question how it could call itself a super-glue.

Did you make the cherries, or did you buy them?  If they are made with polymer clay you could make a flat backer, then push a small piece over the backer.  That way the glue-pad would be sandwiched between two pieces of clay.

To loosen the earring backs I would suggest heading to your local welding supply store, they have tip cleaners for oxy-acetylene torches and they double as some very awesome needle files.


You should be able to lay hold of a set of those for about 5 bucks.

I always use epoxy glue to work at these times. Maybe it can help you too.

I've tried several different adhesives, but E6000 is my favorite by far. Might be worth ordering online if you can't find it locally. It's really easy to use and doesn't instantly dry, which is nice when you accidently glue something crooked.
