This winter, I somehow got to perusing the scrapbooking threads. I'd never liked scrapbooking, because it just seemed so regimented to me. Boy was I wrong! Some of you crafty people are so darn talented it blows my mind!

Having fallen in love with the concept of an art journal, I got started on my very own! Many of my pages are too personal for public viewing, or simply not finished, but I'm so proud of this page dedicated to a recent camping trip, I had to share!

Lake Abitibi is a large, shallow lake straddling the border of Ontario and Quebec about 12 hours north of Ottawa (or about 2 hours from my present location). Our campsite was on the west side of the lake on a big clay bank with a sandy shore. Someone had thoughtfully made driftwood stairs and left an old table at this site! It was handy to have more than just a trestle-and-plywood table for food preparation.

We had a nicely tarped kitchen area with enough space for a fire. Sam the Yorkie spent much of his time by the fire, when he wasn't chest deep in the lake or trying to bite our fishing lures.

Mini-Sam is a piece of vinyl with chenille yarn stitched in place.

The west side of the lake was the lee shore, so despite the EXCELLENT pickeral (aka walleye) fishing, our poor boat got swamped! My little tinfoil boat is half-submerged in front of two "boulders" and a pair of cedar trees. The rocks are from the boat landing you use to get into the lake.

All in all, it was an excellent trip, and my little tribute turned out exactly as I'd envisioned Cheesy

don't you love it when stuff comes together just the way you want?  I love the smoke from your fire - very clever!

Very nice. I feel like I'm there. Smiley I love the earth tones and the aerial perspective you used. It has an overall relaxed feeling.
