OOOOh, very cool! Where do you get discharge paste from?

A local art supply store near me.  But you can always get it online too.  This is the one I have:

Sent in my questionaire, I'm really excited to do a shirt swap. I use to stencil and do emboirdered shirts all the time. I also use to make my own patches with a bleach paste and would add them to old punk shirts and other clothing.

OOhh cool info jilly.  By swivel knife do you mean the ones that have a little U shape you put your pointer finger in and control the spin with thumb and the finger next to the pointer (I know I learned that in kindergarten but it seems to have fallen out of my head for the mo)?  Fisker makes the one I have tried out before.

A small note on bleaching black fabrics.  You will NEVER know what the base color is and so it is nearly imposable to guess what color you will end up with.  You can get everything from very cool purples and golden color, to rather meh muddy browns and greys.  So test with a q-tip on the inside of the hem or under the arm where it won't show if your worried about what color the black will become.

To all past swap partners....If something I made you fell apart in some way, it would be helpful to me if you PMed me and told me about it.  Sometimes, I try new things, and if they fail, it helps me to know

Huh, I haven't heard about what you are talking about suereal.  I was more talking about this:

http://www.amazon.com/X-ACTO-X3253-Designer-Series-Swivel/dp/B001KZH27I

where the blade moves around easily which makes going around curves a breeze.  Though that's not the one I have.  I have just a plain silver one that I bought ages and ages ago.

My stenciled shirts, I used to make with sticker paper, because I could never find freezer paper here. But thanks to some craftsters, I have freezer paper now. I should probably experiment with it before I do anything for the swap.

I normally use a local acrylic paint (that I think must be partly fabric paint, because it doesn't crack when I use it on fabric and I wear the ones I've stenciled a lot by now). The problem with paints is that it stiffens the fabric, but I love the crisp lines stenciling gives me. (I'm too scared of bleaching). Also, the colors are pretty limited, but they can be mixed to make other colors.

I've also done some shirts with Sharpies. I iron the shirts to heat set. I've used black a lot, and even if it does fade a bit after a couple of washes, it's still there. It doesn't stiffen the fabric, but I'm not sure how the other colors will hold up to washing and you have to do your lines carefully because the ink spreads if you hold it to the fabric too long. Also, I've only tried it on white shirts.

I've also used Pentel fabric pastels. I love the colors I get with these and the control I have with coloring with them. They're really vibrant at first, but fade a bit after the first wash. But they are permanent after and they don't stiffen the fabric.

Wow!  We will definitely fill up before I get back home.  We only have ONE spot left!  I think we will have a ton of fun Grin

jillybeans--- Ahh!  I had not noticed swivel stick type knives before!  I guess I just thought they were normal knives Grin.  This is what I meant
