Ever since the first Felt Badge Swap and the Craftsters Scouts, I've been all about making felt badges.  I really wanted to combine with my love of badge making with my love of my husband.  He's a huge nerd, so I decided I wanted to make him a series of Star Wars achievement badges and afix 'em to a hoody zip-up sweatshirt for him (he loves him some zippies!) for his birthday.  I told gozer about my idea, and she helped me come up with ideas for the badges (and when I say "helped me", I mean she pretty much gave me all the titles of almost all of the badges.  lol!).  I <3 gozer!  She is so knowledgeable about all things Star Wars!

I have a whole bunch more badges that I want to make, and whole bunch that already cut out and just need to be pieced together.  But, I didn't want to make my husband wait for the sweatshirt anymore (since his birthday was in April and I just got it all put together this weekend).  So, I'm going to continue to make badges and just add them to his zippy as I go.  But, for now, here is what he's got!

I bought the zippy at Target, and its knit fabric, so much more lightweight than his regular sweatshirts.  The badges will eventually continue to the backside of the sweatshirt around the bottom.  I put a square of heat n bond onto the back of the badge and then ironed it onto the sweatshirt, just so if the stitching ever started to come off, they badge would stay on there.

The badges are made from wool blend felt.  Its super nice!

Here are the badges before I put them onto the sweatshirt.  The badges are (in case you can't read them) Naboo Swimming, Wompa Combat, Sith Tracking, Bantha Training, Rebel Pilot First Solo Flight, Droid Construction, The Force Level 3, Hoth Ice Sculpture, and Endor Woodworking.

And now you can all swoon over my husband modeling his new zippy.  ^_^

Thanks for looking!

You are amazing, jilly!! I'm not a big enough star wars geek to understand the meanings, but I am a HUGE felt badge geek so I LOVE LOVE LOVE this!! Great job. I like that each badge is unique but follows a similar design layout.

Keep us posted as you add more!

YES! This totally rocks, Jillybeans! It's hilarious- but especially the "The force level 3" one! I might have to blatantly steal be inspired by your ideas and make a couple for another silly nerd-boy, who keeps insisting on watching StarWars as well Grin

I have a few skeins of Caron Simply Soft I would love to supply swap with anyone for other types of yarn, I am finding the yarn a tad hard to work with.

I'm more Star Trek than Star Wars, but even though I don't understand all the badgey nuances, I am still able to recognize Geek Awesome when I see it.

This is it.
