I started sewing a jacket (cardigan) for my daughter and it looked cute in the picture but once I had the front and back sewn together I had her try it on and it just does not do anything for her. Its too square and boxy. I'm thinking to make it more rounded and bring the waist in. BUT, I don't have enough fabric to cut a new facing -- the facing I have is of course for the boxy style. The fabric is a knit. My daughter's solution is to just re-shape it and not worry about the facing at all and just turn it under & stitch along the edge. Would that look ok?

You could take it in at the side seams and at the centre back seam if it has one. If it doesn't have a centre back seam, you could take in two darts equidistant from the centre back.

As for not enough fabric for a facing, you could always use something complementary as the facing Cheesy

Thank you! complimentary or contrasting facing is a great idea!

I'll have to take the waist in at the side seams since there is no back seam, but I'll keep that in mind for next time ('cause there probably will be a next time!)

Your daughter is clever. Smiley I suppose i'd do the same. I'd love to see the way it looks though, so I could suggest better! Smiley
