With the better part of a day and some junk from my garage I built this:

Here's a close up of the spindle set up:

It actually works pretty well, though it has to be repaired a lot.

Ingredients:

Bike wheel
Wastebasket
Melted record
Plastic box
Ceramic wheel
Meat thermometer
Particle board
Nails
Duck tape

Anyone could make something like this, would anyone be interested if I wrote up a little guide to making a junk spinning wheel?

Whoa!  This is incredible - love the Franken-wheel!  I'd love to see how you made it, but my mechanical skills are pretty poor, so I'm not sure I could follow a tute!  Grin

One thing I'm wondering - is it comfy to spin with her?  Do you sit her on a table to spin?  I can't imagine working that close to the floor!

Right on!  This is very thrifty and nifty.  You spin her as you would spin a great wheel?

Oh, please!  I would love a spinning wheel but just can't afford one.  If you made a little tute, I would love you forever!

What a fantastic contraption! I would love to learn how to do this. I love creative re-use, and I have been wanting to make a great wheel for spinning long-draw. Do you use it on a table top?
