Hi there,

I am making my first quilt, and am ready to start the actual quilting process, I picked up some quilting stencils, but I am wondering if they are for machine quilting or if I should do them by hand. I have a butterfly stencil, a small heart border stencil, and a iris stencil. There are some tiny curves in them so I have no idea what would be best to do here.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hello!  You should be able to use the stencils for either hand or machine work.  If you are worried about the tight curves, do a swatch with some scraps for practice.  The only thing I can think of that might trip you up is if you are not free motion quilting then a lot of curves might be a pain if the quilt is large since you will be turning the quilt a lot.

There's one in every family, and I'm an only child.
