YOYO-ALONG

This is a motivational crochetalong. The idea is to do some easy 'mindless' crocheting and perhaps ending up with an afghan after a month or two. It's a great yarn destashing project as well!

The idea is to keep yourself working on your yoyos and posting progress photos as you go, and posting updates on how much you've accomplished throughout the month. Ideally, one post per week to let everyone know how it's going and at least one progress picture for the month should be the goal.

There will also be some stitch-markers as a prize for this month.

To stand a chance to win, you must post at least 4 times during the month of June. At the end of the month I'll do a lucky draw.

YOYO PATTERN:

1 - Chain 4 and Slip Stitch To Create A Ring
2 - Chain Up 3, Double Crochet 11 Times. (The first chain of 3 counts as one Double Crochet Automatically giving a final of 12). Slip Stitch at the end to complete the circle.

You can stop here, or add additional rounds, doubling up the stitch count each row.

Methods for joining your yoyos together
1. Hexagonal Braiding Joining
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H80JyAAkiHQ&feature=channel

2. Hexagonal Net Joining

June will be a busy month for me, organizing the OPS and working on our RenFest stuff, but I think I might try to go along with this. Maybe I can make some yoyos each night while watching HIMYM (which we recently discovered and can't get enough of). I can do some mindless crochet while watching, right?

I have this one buried in my yarn closet somewhere that was supposed to be one yoyo of every yarn I purchased after I learned to crochet. It is really in need of some updating so this could give me the motivation to catch up!

I will post a picture shortly, but I nearly have a table cover done. LOL Also formulating what else I want to make this month, using some other stash I'm really not to hip on some of the colors I have, and will see how they turn out. I generally love dark colors, earth tones, and gem stone colors.

Mismatched or different yarn colours can be unified if one uses a single complementary or neutral colour to crochet all the yoyos together.  Cheesy

Radmom - sounds like you have been crocheting up a yoyo storm!! Wink

I have indeed! LOL This pic I took last night, and I actually have done more since. LOL

Will post again soon. Going to a Star Trek convention tomorrow, sadly I had ZERO clue I would be going. So I have to go sans costume. LOL Oh well, it has been a couple of decades since I have been to a ST con. Actually truth be told, I have gone to sci fi cons, but solely ST has been since I was 4 years old. I have one picture with George Takei, he will also be there, but not signing during the short time I will be there sadly.

I haven't even started yet. I think I'll take it with me for busy work in the van on our road trip to Denver in a couple weeks. Hooray thoughtless busyness!

RadMom, is that a goddess symbol?

Started my yoyos and was going to take pictures and post them but my camera is missing. I don't feel it is in my house any longer and I am horribly sad. But anyway, I decided I don't want to have to weave in all the tails from all of these yoyos so I'm making a pillow with them. It's coming along nicely! Too bad I can't show you. I don't think painting a picture with my words will count for the giveaway part, will it? damn.

I started assembling the ones I have doe so far together, then my parotid gland started swelling up. I went in to get it looked after, they can't find an infection so I have to get an ultrasound. I'm pretty much in pain, and have stopped doing anything. Hopefully by this weekend it will be over with. Here's crossing my fingers.

You'll definitely be in my thoughts Radmom....as for my little lovelies, they have been on vacation for a couple days while we taught my stepson some new crafty goodness....they are still bright and beautiful as ever, and I plan on picking up the hook again tonight as he will be going to bed early.

On a side note, jexxican, I saw some of the hand carved stamps you did in the swap galleries and was blown away!  So much talent!

jexxican- sorry to hear that your camera has gone AWOL. Can't you perhaps take a pic with you phone? Would love to see what the cushion looks like Smiley

Radmom- I really hope the pain subsides quickly and that it's not a serious problem. You are in my thoughts.

I've had a lot of free time - I've crocheted 117 135 yoyos so far Smiley

I'm currently unemployed so I have a lot of free time for crocheting - hence the pile of yoyos... Wink
I was thinking of making an afghan but I just realised that with only 135 yoyos it's going to be far too small for my liking so I'm thinking of making a yoyo bag. If it's successful I'll make a few more with the remaining yoyos  Cheesy

How is every one else doing???

I'm finally up and about. Naturally, nothing gets done when I am sick. Lol. Husbands and kids, gotta love them. Lol I will be able to start working on my table cloth project after seeing the bat mobile today, and finishing up my lawn, and mowing my dads little box of a back yard.Smiley

I know I'm behind, but I think I can catch up in time.

Radmom, glad you're feeling better. Pain always Sucks.

Katara, that's a lot of Yo-yos!

Found my camera! After accusing the neighbor girl and asking her Nana to buy me a new one and then going out and spending $190 myself on a new one, it turned up in the Bermuda Triangle that I call my purse. Thank you Target for letting me return it! So here's my pillow:

^first side^

I don't have enough stuffing for it so I haven't attached the last yoyo as you can see in the middle there. And when I was putting this back in my WIP basket my hook fell out and behind my dresser. Bah!

I really like the pillow, though. !!! Cheesy

Oh, and there's 37/side so a total of 74 yoyos, all in like 3 days. Woah! It was nice. I highly enjoyed this project. Thanks for putting this CAL on. It helped me use a bunch of leftover balls. Hehe, I said balls...

My husband saw the yoyos and asked if I could make him a beanie, just to wear inside our house. It's winter here and his hair is extremely short, so I obliged. This is what it looks like:

Think I'm going to make myself one too, but I'll be following a slightly different approach  Wink
