So my big guy is turning 4 and his birthday party was today. As part of my year of homemade gifts pledge, we decided to make him a wallet. For a few reasons. 1) he's just started earning an allowance for helping out with some household chores, and 2) he just got his first (OWN!) library card (which he was super excited about) and we thought - brilliant! A wallet.

Also - he's completely obsessed with spiderman... so... obviously a spiderman wallet.

Well, I've never sewn a wallet before, but I knew it would need a few things. 1) A space big enough to freezer paper stencil the spiderman logo on 2) A zipper, because most of his "monies" are going to end up as change and 3) a snap or velcro that would be simple enough for him to manage opening and closing.

Some red broadcloth, teal bias tape, a teal zipper and a snap later. (And lots of cutting, swearing at myself and the sewing machine, and making up a pattern as I go) we have - the first ever sewn by Teamama Spiderman wallet!

Also - made this batman tee to go with it.

C&C SO welcome!
Tea.

What a great idea! I'd like to make one for my five year old - so he can pack his own money around too. This is so well done.

We went out tonight to spend some of his birthday "monies" and he was soooo proud to be able to take out his own wallet and give the "lady" (that's what he calls the cashiers) his money. And then he very proudly told her: "I'm a big boy now. That's why I can have a spiderman wallet. And MY mommy sewed it for me."

Just about breaks my heart he's so sweet. Smiley

Funny how the simplest things can make a kid happy.

I didn't use a pattern or anything, but the wallet is in 2 basic sections: The card flaps section, and then the backing piece which folded over the edge to create the closing flap. I used the zipper to create a pocket section between the front and back (so his change won't fall out of his wallet) and sort of went from there. I generally don't sew with a pattern, it's all kind of make-it-up-as-I-go, but this one worked out first go!
