Does anyone need more points?

I feel like felting something, but I would rather do a small project than something big, and my felting to-do list is only big things right now. Hmmm....

Has there been a decision made as to when the STS will reopen?   September?

We haven't made any decision yet, loves and I will follow the discussion here....I've been trying to figure out how a seasonal STS would work so we don't run into the same problem of everyone having points that they can't spend because all the shops are closed.  Love to hear everyone's ideas....

What about an equilibrium fund?   Something that brings the swap back from having too many points in circulation when someone leaves without repaying their loan.

An example:

Starting point:
inflation fund:  2 points
equilibrium fund:  0 points

Let's say someone quit the shop with zero points.  Then the swap would need to lose 3 points from the total points in circulation to bring it back to a balanced 3 points per person state.

inflation fund:  2 points
equilibrium fund:  -3 points

These 3 points should come from the inflation fund first and then if there was still a negative balance then from donations from other swap members?

inflation fund:  0 points
equilibrium fund:  -1 points

1 point donation from a swap member:

inflation fund: 0 points
equilibrium fund: 0 points

I know I would be willing to donate a point now and then to keep the swap going in a sustainable manner.  I'm sure others would too.   Smiley

I didn't know people were leaving with zero points.  I thought everyone was loaned 3 points and expected to pay it back when they left.
I would contribute to the fund, but I do think that we should try to encourage people to leave with 3 points...or maybe points shouldn't carry to the next round and everyone should get their points back to 3 by the end.

There have been a few who leave with less than 3 points, which earns them a negative.  Some came back and made up the points, the rest were balanced out by the inflation fund.  Ideally everyone would get back to 3, but within a month (and I'm not even sure if 2 months would be long enough) there may be no opportunity to do so...for example if someone happened to be away for some reason or no claims were made to their shop, as well as when points are not spent by other members for whatever reason.  So many variables in play....

I like the suggestion of an equilibrium fund...

I kind of feel like another problem (which I'm totally guilty of) is that the same stuff remains in everyone's shop month after month.  Maybe there should be some kind of rule where you have to add new stuff (like a certain number of new items) each month?  I mean if you were in a regular swap you'd be crafting for that. I know I'm guilty of not adding anything new because I'm too busy...but I guess I shouldn't be even swapping if I can't even take the time to make something new...

Maybe adding new stuff regularly would keep points moving a bit more?  and maybe be able to continue the swap for long periods of time again.

Now that I think of it more...theres no way to really give a negative (or "punishment") for not adding new stuff..so not sure how that'd really be enforced...

yeah, its kind of hard to enforce.  Just like we can't really make someone get back to 3 points....

I still can't figure out why we ended up with so many surplus points as our average was close to what redheadskydiver (who seemed to understand the economics far better than I) always said we needed to be at which was around 3.5

I do believe this swap needs to have a certain number of people to make it work really well and think the way it ended with everyone having points they couldn't spend was in large part a result of having very few shops the last few rounds.

I don't think getting back to 3 points every single month would be feasible for many reasons (vacations, multiple claims made at the very end of the month, no claims etc) .   I much prefer carrying over points month to month.   I do think people should pay back their 3 points before leaving the swap entirely but this doesn't always happen and then there are extra points in circulation.   The inflation fund should take care of it for the most part but may not always be able to and that is why I suggested and think there should be an equilibrium fund too.

I tend to agree with sarah that new things should be added each month to prevent swap stalls.  I don't know if there is a way to enforce it except for strong encouragement and reminders  would be a good idea.  Smiley   I don't mind the older things being left in the shop because sometimes I still want to claim those things, but just can't acquire enough points.  I have a list of things I still want from the shops that have been in for multiple rounds.  But new and shiny things should definitely be added too because that really does keep the swapping going.   I've got a list of things I want to make for my shop for when it opens so I'll have all new items.
