Scrapbooking Paper & Tile Coasters

I made these for lindyv321 in the OWS 82.  They were pinned on her pinterest and I've made them before and happened to have a bunch of tiles on hand.





They are super easy to make, and are great gifts!  I was planning on making a bunch up for christmas, but ended up running out of time (hence why I have a bunch of tiles on hand!  lol!)  To make, grab some thick scrapbooking paper and some tiles.  I got my tiles at Home Depot, and they were like $.16 each.  Also, I used the thicker scrapbooking paper because I had trouble with bubbling when I used the thinner scrapbooking paper, so I found the thicker stuff to not have that problem and also to have a nice texture.  Cut them into squares, add mod podge to the backside of the paper and stick 'em onto your tile.  (Make sure you clean off your tiles first.  They can be a little dirty/dusty from the hardware store.)  Then grab yourself a spray on sealer (preferably one that works well with paper and is waterproof).  I gave these ones three coats.  Once they are all dried, I applied felt pads  to the bottom, one in each corner.  The ones I got have a sticky back to them, but I've had problems in the past with them not staying stuck on.  So this time, to make sure those little pads stay on, I applied a tiny bit of Gorilla Glue onto the sticky side and then put them onto the tile.  (If you do use Gorilla Glue, make sure to only use a very small amount, because the glue expands to 3x its size and will squish out if you put on too much).  Those little suckers aren't coming off now!

these look great! any idea of how water proof they are with the sealer you used? i'm thinking about making a bunch, but want to make sure they don't get ruined from condensation.

I made sure to get a waterproof sealer.  I think it really depends on what you get, and to make sure to give a bunch of coats.  The better coated it is, the more protection it will have.

I bought some tile for almost nothing a few months back at my local Habitat ReStore. It's worth checking out of you have one in your area! I picked up some tiny ones that I have plans to turn into magnets, and since my painting and attempted making of a stencil didn't work so well, I think I'll give this a try. Nice coasters!
