Making clothes without paper patterns

I would like to learn to design & make clothes for myself, without paper patterns.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area. I would love recommendations for either an individual I could hire to teach me, or a class I could take. I think what I'm looking for is "draping"? (Simple Google searches haven't turned up anything that looks promising yet.)

It's not draping, but it IS very basic clothing construction: What The Craft

If you look at the right side of the page a bit down from the top, the tutorials are listed in yellow. The site is geared more towards the teenage sewista, but reading it could give you some ideas of where to start.

As for classes in your area, I did find this page.
