I know they're two different ways of measuring, but I have a pattern which calls for 425 yards of chunky yarn.

I've been given 500g of chunky yarn for FREEEEEE!! and would like to know if I can make the pattern with the free yarn. not a clue how much 1yd weighs because my scales arn't sensitive enough to find out Sad

other than taking the sleeve off a skein and unwrapping it to measure how many yards there are, I'd like an easier method of estimating it!
please help!

Usually chunky yarn is about 50-70 yds per 50g. You can measure off 10 yards and weigh that then multiply it.
