This was one of my crazy cheap purchases from the school yard sale back in April.  I removed the shoulder pads, sleeves, and fake breast pockets.  I hemmed the sleeves and sewed closed the holes in the chest.  After some thought, I decided to remove the collar.  Next, I removed the buttons from the front of the dress and sewed it closed.  Because I did such a poor job on the front of the dress, I decided to turn it around.  This looked much better.  The only problem was that the neckline was too tight. I fixed this by seam-ripping about an inch down the shoulder seam.  To streamline the neck, I folded the ends of the shoulder seams into the dress and sewed them down.  After hemming the neckline, I removed material from the bottom of the dress until it hit above my knees.  I hemmed the bottom of the dress and lastly needed to do something about the back (previously the front) of the dress.  I took a piece of lace and gathered it until it was short enough to run from my neckline to waste-line.  I sewed it to the dress and it just barely covered up the hatchet job I called sewing.

Oh wow. Yours looks so much better than the original. I would like to see the lacy back though. Smiley

That looks amazing! The lace back is also wonderful (seen it on your blog) Well I think you did an awesome job! (And other people that don't know how to sew probably won't even notice that you did a 'crappy job' on the back) Wink

The fabric is very forgiving for anything you could call "sewing error". I think it looks awesome, love the drape of it.
