For my son's 5th birthday, I made a cake in the shape of a 5 that looked like it was made of Legos.  I basically copied the cake made here: http://crackersart.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/harveys-5th-birthday-lego-inspired.html

I made the 5 using 2 cake mixes, with cake in two round pans and two square pans.  I cut and shaped the cake to look like a 5. The cakes were iced with buttercream and covered in fondant.  I was planning to make the entire 5 royal blue, but my blue fondant was dry and cracking some so I just used sections of it on the sides.  I used white fondant for the top.   The Lego brick details were made with a mixture of fondant and gumpaste.  The other Legos were all my son's birthday presents.  Smiley

This is a close-up of the forklift with the Lego details.  I made three molds from actual Legos using Amazing Mold Putty, which I found out about from this website: http://www.crafttestdummies.com/craft-projects-2/how-to-lego-molds-and-candies/

Half of the cake was a vanilla cake mix colored red, yellow, green, and blue (the colors I used throughout the party).  I tried to have layers, but didn't realize that you had to bake the colors separately so they would stay layered.  It ended up being kind of a swirl instead.  The other half of the cake was root beer flavored.  I used a vanilla cake mix and added root beer instead of water and added a teaspoon of root beer flavoring.  With frosting and ice cream, it was root beer float goodness.

Incredible! You did such a great job, and all the details are spot on. I would not have wanted to cut the cake. Smiley Your son has a great mommy. Pinned and rocked!
