I took a totally fun class today (www.scrap-sf.org, look at the calendar page and scroll down to see class and instructor info). This is my first piece, the Queen of Crafts:

I don't get out to Scrap too often because it is a hike but I forgot how much fun stuff is there. We were allowed to "shop" to get our supplies. Some of the things are mine from home - I'll try to list them all from head to toe:

Crown is made from smashed champagne cap and cut with metal snips (new favorite tool)
Head is a poker chip with bottle cap-encased Queen of Hearts (new use for pliers - yay)
Dress is cork floor samples cut to fit child's scissors
I just added a wood heart button and two snap "boobs"
Used water color paint tube for extra pizzaz
Legs/stand made from chop stick, spool, 3 bobbins and zipper is glued onto spool
Base is another poker chip glued onto marble floor tile sample.
Arms are a key and safety pin and part of a necklace with small bottle wired on
I added mini-alphabet beads to say "Queen of Crafts"

I stil need to deal with the beads at the waist - I can see a glob of glue and there is a tail hanging in the back. I have some belt buckles so I may add that to the front.

Here is a close up of the top:

I learned how to use a power drill to make holes for "stitching" my bits together - LOVE POWER TOOLS!

I almost learned how to add rivets - copper and aluminum, but was not totally paying attention so will have to use YouTube to fill in the gaps. But love the super hot glue gun with super hot glue to attach stuff. I learned how to smash bottle caps, jelly jar lids and other metal stuff - LOVE TO SMASH STUFF! I used wire to attach some parts also.

I may add alphabet beads to proclaim my craftiness to the kingdom, and by kingdom I mean, 83 preschoolers and a few assorted teachers who don't currently despise me. But as Michael Scott says - I want to be feared and loved. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me!"

Do I qualify for the Terribly Important swaps now? I suppose I don't have to ask - I'm so important that I can just cram my way in!

Awesome awesome!

Wow!

I love how everything comes together--things and pieces that didn't know each other until the moment you put them together and now, they look like they were meant for each other.
i have a dremel that maybe i tried once. i really have to dig it out and just learn by doing.

Smmarrt - I've said it before, I'll say it again - "You're so SMMARRT!!"  Smart in the way that you are crafty and creative, smart like a fox! - I love the ideas that pour out of your brain and into your fingers and onto the crafting supplies!  I'm missing just one thing - I'm not seeing the crown - I REALLY want to see that - I've been sitting here looking closely (my nose against the screen!) trying to see it.  Help.

I would love to have a place like SCRAP here in Kansas - maybe I'll have to travel over to KC Missouri and have a look.

I think you have prepared yourself very well for a craft doll swap - let's do it!!

 Cool

ps- susan, I had a Dremel, didn't use it, so I gave it to my son.   Tongue
I think I need to go buy me another one!   Cool

Whoops, you're right fiddlegirl - no crown. The top photo is an almost-finsihed pic. I'll add another tomorrow morning - with crown and beads.
