This is about the deepest drop vase I can make in my kiln (tempted to buy another). I made this about 2 months ago and was paralyzed because I didn't know what to do with it. Should I cut the rim off and waste all that rim goodness? Cut the rim into a shape? My cousin came to visit and as I was talking to her about this piece, it came to me: why not just cut the rim to make it rest flat? She even helped me decide which area to cut. Cogito ergo sum. Enjoy!

That is beautiful.  I have had a fascination with millefiori since I was a child.  Although it made a gorgeous vase, if you plan to make anymore I think that it would make a truly unique hanging lamp using maybe a low watt bulb.  They sell lighting kits in most hardware stores.

That is very innovative, I love how it sits on the rim like that.  Just gorgeous on it's own, and probably phenomenol with flowers or some kind of arrangement in it.

The rim is only ~7 inches across and the base is 2 inches.

Love it! Very unique and creative way to have cut the rim. Millefiore is so beautiful, and this really shows all the lovely color. Smiley
