Sorry this is pic heavy. For the 2012 Summer Semester Harry Potter Craftalong http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=408525.0  we have class assignments to complete.  I choose to do Transfiguration.  I took one of my daughters old my little pony's and turned it into a hippogriff. This is my first custom My little pony and I dont think its going to be my last. I based him after Buckbeak in color. I used polymer clay to add the beak and make all the feathers and wings. I love how he turned out and can't wait to add him to my HP display.

C&C welcome

What kind of paint & sealer did you use for the body? I've been wanting to try this but have seen a lot of conflicting opinions online.

I used acrylic paint and a spray sealer. Nothing fancy. Since he'll be a display I wasnt to worried about wear and tare.

This is actually amazing. I like the Harry Potter series, but I'm not hardcore about it and I love this anyway. I've decided to make some for my potential future non-conformist kids. Screw ponies - bring on the mythical creatures!

Wow Thank you so much.  All you comments have been so great.

so incredible.

I baked it on the pony. Each feather was hand made placed on in a shingle pattern. Then I used an exacto to score the feathers.  It took alot of time but I did a HP marathon while crafting so that helped.

VERY cool!  How did that pony not melt in the oven?  The wings are beautifully done!

Since he was only in there for 30 min at 235 he got soft but didnt melt.  I did have to bake him 4 different times since I did the feathers and sculpting in stages.

You have some mad skills. I am echoing a previous sentiment in saying I would have never guessed the base was a pony. Good to know you can bake on the clay without melting the base, I had been wondering about this myself for a while.  Cheesy Amazing work!

Everything looks good except when you turn the piece around and we can see the horse's romp; it sort've looks out of place - too smooth, doesn't jel so-to-speak.  I would roughen up that area a bit more somehow, give it a bit more texture, not as much as the rest of the piece, just poor more grit in it. Then you will have nailed it!
