Hi puamelia, I believe it's only the hardneck varieties that produce scapes.  Do you recall if you planted hard or soft neck?  The scapes come in before the bulbs mature.  We know it's time to harvest our garlic when most of the green stalk has turned to yellow and the plant starts to lean.

Thank you! I have no idea what we planted. label said "garlic", nothing more about hard or soft. I guess if the stalks turn yellow without scapes I'll know it is soft neck and I'll be a bit sad lol!

Mmmm! I think it all looks delicious. Garden carrots always taste better than store carrots. Yay for onion flowers!

We both save our own for seed and also order a bit from Seed Savers Exchange.  They will be accepting orders again the first of August for next year's crop.  In our gardening zone (7a), we plant in October and harvest in June.  Smiley  When did you plant yours?

That looks amazing!  I've just planted my first garden, we did carrots too, but I think they died while I transplanted them outside Sad

Bummer!  Carrots are one of those things that don't transplant well.  Go ahead and try again if you have any seeds left.  Just plant them in the ground and keep them watered well.  Good luck!

I will mark my calendar for august. We recently moved, and weather doesn't vary much where I am in Hawaii, so I didn't see the harm in starting late - I planted in Feb. and the stalks are about 8-10" at the moment.
