Bicycle Caddy with Pockets using the BERNINA 330The weather is finally getting warm here in the Pacific Northwest and that means I can put away the umbrella and dust off my bike. I don't have a basket for my bike yet (and I stress "yet") so in the meantime, I decided to make this bike caddy.

The pattern that I originally found for this project was made from a tea towel but I altered the pattern a bit and used regular quilting fabric instead, mainly because I had cute pink fabric with puppies that I was dying to use.
Materials Used:2 pieces of cotton fabric cut 12 inches wide, 15 inches long
1 piece of oil cloth cut 12 inches wide, 30 inches long
2 pieces of fabric, for pockets cut 12 inches long, 12 inches wide
2 pieces of contrasting fabric, for smaller pockets cut to size you want
2 grommets
2 carabineers
I first laid out the two main pieces of my caddy and stitched them together in the middle. I drew a little diagram of how I needed to lay out the pieces and what it needed to look like.

After I stitched the middle together and hemmed the top of the pockets, I laid out the main piece horizontally, right sizes facing up, I placed the 12 inch pockets and then the smaller pockets. I pinned the pockets in place and moved on to the oil cloth. Place the oil cloth and the fabric with pockets, right sides together and sewed the sides together. I left a 4 inch gap in order to turn the fabric out.

Next, I stitched the gap close by turning the edge under and top stitched the entire piece.
The pockets could have been basted and sewn before I stitched the oil cloth on but I wanted to make sure that they were really strong and had a little more stability to them so I stitched them right to the oil cloth, too.

Now to put on the grommets, I placed the grommets 1 inch from the edge of the bag. I had to use a grommet tool to do this but it was super easy!

Last, I hooked my carabineers to the bag and it was ready to go!

There are a couple of ways to attach the bag to your bike, the best way is with a little bike rack in the back or you can attach it to the front, with the carabineers, you can attach it virtually anywhere on your bike!
Now all I need is to fill the pockets with my favorite cheese, baguette and bottle of wine! I'm off to the store!
