I really wanted to make some skirts for Crafterhours Skirt Week this year, so I decided to give this tutorial: http://www.max-california.com/2009/11/ruffled-layered-skirt.html another shot. I've done it once before, but I was pretty new at sewing so it didn't turn out exactly right. I'm much happier with my results this time!

I used two owl fabrics with the same print, but in different colours.

Here's my little diagram of the pieces I had to cut out.

My finished skirt! It makes me feel like a giant owl-covered cupcake (I do wish I'd ironed my skirt first, instead of getting excited and running outside to take photos). Oh, I also refashioned my shirt from a dress, and put the crochet heart back in it. For more skirt pics & details, see my blog: http://owlobsessedoddity.blogspot.com.au/2012/05/diy-friday-owl-print-cupcake-skirt.html. The best thing is, I have enough material left to make another skirt!
