Hi!! I have Photoshop and the complete Adobe suite (CS5) but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take a picture and turn it into a line drawing that looks good enough for me to stitch.  Please help me!! If anyone knows a of a good tutorial out there or has one I will love you forever!!

Thank you sooo much!!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

If you are talking about cross stitch:
You can use some of those conversion programs that people have mentioned in other threads for photos too.

I think KG-Chart is free for anyone.  There are a couple of free online pattern creators too.
The Sprite Stitch forums have some good tutorials on this in the following threads:
http://www.spritestitch.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4854
(for the online programs)

http://www.spritestitch.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=475
For using KG Chart.

They are written for video game characters ie-sprites, but it is a good run down that will get you started with a real photo too.  Smiley

Hope that helps!  There are a couple of other threads around this topic with a whole list of programs for pattern creation, but I don't have them bookmarked on this computer.  For some reason I had the sprite stitch pages but not craftster.

If you need something for embroidery, you might have to decrease the number of colors in your photo to get it line-able in photoshop.  I know that is possible somewhere in the color choices...  Sometimes converting the image to gray scale or black and white helps with definition to give you a better outline type pattern.

Looking to de-stash cross stitch magazines, particularly Cross Stitch Gold or New Stitches?  Please drop me a line!  I'd love to swap or buy some missing from my library!

Thank you! Yeah I was talking about embroidery so I will try changing it grayscale first....i just havent been able to make it look good enough so that it is worthy of stitching yet

Once you change your image to gray scale or desaturate with image adjustments, go to Filter > Stylize > Fine Edges to get a line effect. You will probably need to adjust the Brightness/Contrast (Image > Adjustments) and sharpen with an unsharp mask (Filter > Sharpen).
