Matchbook Sewing Kit (with pattern)

After seeing the innards, I can't believe that it stays closed either.

I know!  Totally freakish.  I'll have to see if I can get a better picture of how I did the base innards.  If I recall correctly, it wasn't particularly pretty, so that's why I didn't photograph it (filed under: "no one knows you're a dog on the internet").

Now if I can just find the darn thing...

 outstanding! how did you come up with the idea for a sewing kit? I'm so intrigued by the creative process... or maybe better said: the inspiration process.  It's beautiful AND functional!

ah yes, now I remember why I didn't post a photo of the inside of the base -- Impatient Gluing Ugliness (didn't let it dry before moving on to the next step).

how did you come up with the idea for a sewing kit?

Well... I had this idea of wanting to do some sort of "Steampunk Travel/Emergency Kit" -- a spoof that would come complete with wee little spare gears and clock faces... but once I got beyond thinking how clever I was, every designed execution of said idea was just lame.

So very very lame.

But I was stuck on the "kit" idea and I couldn't let it go. And since I can never find needles and thread in my house, I had a theory that such a kit might cure me of that particular problem.

Of course, said theory relied on remembering: 1) That I had the kit; and 2) Where I put it.

Since then I've purchased about a dozen packs of needles and placed them in a dozen different places in my house.

If I could just remember to buy a dozen spools of thread, I might be on to something.
