Hi everyone!

For this super fun challenge, I decided to make a mask!

My thoughts were of Pele, the Hawai`ian goddess of fire (and volcanoes!) while I made it.
(It's made with paper mache, and includes lava rocks!)

I started off by making a mold of my face with plaster gauze.  (I used scissors during this part, to cut the gauze to the right size for what I needed.)

(creeper action shot of waiting for the plaster to dry)

Here's the mask form (not on my face):

After letting the form dry for a couple days, I went to town on preparing it for the paper mache.
Added some wires....

I forgot to get an action shot of the paper mache process (my camera probably thanks me), but here it is as I began the first layer of paint...

After I gave it a few more coats and let that dry for a good two days (just to be sure), I searched my yard and found a nice collection of lava rocks:

(I like these lava rock bits, because they all have little shiny sides and bubbly sides which add character!)

The rest is history as I added the lava rocks along with beads, tiny polymer tiles (which I made), crystals, shells, and rhinestones!

Here are just a few more shots! Smiley

I think I'll use it as a wall hanging when it's not on my face!

Thanks for looking!

This is quite awesome!  I'm glad you told us that you used lava rocks though...  I honestly thought they were raisins.  *fail on my part!*  lol
