I just saw the movie for a second time last weekend.
I loved it. But...(there's always a but, right?)

I agree that it might be more of a companion piece to the book, which is fine for me.
I only wish I had the self control to not finish the 2nd 2 books until after I saw the movie.
I read them over the 2weeks before the movie came out. There was NO WAY I could stop reading.

During the show I was such a weepy mess knowing how things turn out, both for the good and the bad.

I'm a weepy mess anyway-the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade makes me cry with all the unabashed cheerfulness!

Otherwise, I saw the movie once w/ someone who had read them, then with someone who hadn't.
Much more fun w/ the one who had. We could give each other "knowing" looks at the stuff they hinted to.

As for Casting...
Haymitch blew me away. He was the reason I looked on IMDB to see who they got to play him. When I saw it was Woody H. I smirked with a bit of a heh heh thrown in at how wonderfully cast it was. I thought he was such a scene stealer.
All the "adults" were perfect!!! Katniss, although I haven't seen Winter's Bone I want to say that Jennifer has crazy skills with raw emotion.
Peeta:
I'm a fan of Josh Hutchson's since Bridge to Terabithia. I think the blond hair looked a bit weird, the guy needs eyebrows, but he was great. Especially when they we're in the car on the way to the train in Dis. 12. He had this tiny moment where his face scrunched up and it really hits you how young they are.
Gale: I hate to say I'm indifferent. Both to the character and the actor. I thought it was right to introduce him but not dwell too much as he has lots in the next 2 (or how ever many movies they end up making).

I end this diatribe with this:
I can't wait for Finnick!

I am a Haymitch fan, so I agree on more drunken Haymitch and the perfection of Woody Harrelson!

I can't wait for all the other victors in Catching Fire and a first glimpse at District 13.

Woody Harrelson was a great choice. I think Haymitch is such a great character, I just wish he had more screen time!  Also- I cant wait for Finnick either! I hope they cast him well

I think that its the curse of reading a book before the movie because the movie will never be exactly the same and you will ALWAYS notice those small details that are different or that they took out.
