So for my birthday I baked my own monster cake (pictures to follow, I'm super proud of it Cheesy) however, I tried to make cake pops for it's eyeballs and they just made me a little crazy. I bake everything from scratch and so the regular cake-pop recipe of one cake packet mix and half a tub of icing was useless. Does anyone know the approximate ratio of cake crumbs to buttercream I should be using? I think I was too icing-y and the pops just fell apart when I tried to coat them in melted white chocolate. I gave up, mixed the cakey icingy mix with the melted choc, smushed it flat and then poured more melted choc over the top. I ended up with super delicious treats, but not the cake pops I was after... Any tips?

... No I don't, sorry... but would love to know the answer as well.  I'm trying to learn how to make them.  Happy belated Birthday!

I wish I'd seen this earlier. Sorry. I also only bake from scratch. I tried making the cake balls and just made one scratch cake and one frosting (for one cake). When mine fell apart also, I just shaped into balls, put them on a cookie sheet and put them in the freezer for a while. Then I dipped them in chocolate. Hope this helps. (I tried to make Bakerellas' cupcake cake balls and that drove me nuts!)

Thank you! That's the route I was going to end up taking, I was just DONE with the darn things by the time I reached that conclusion so I gave up. Next time....

Don't blame you. I love the cake pops but they go so fast. I mean, you spend hours on them then they are gone in literally seconds....at least look at them...maybe I hid something inside?..Another tip I read about is to dip the tip of your stick into the chocolate then insert into the cake pop.

Hey guys! We've actually made a video tutorial for this! http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=383989.0

kittykill says to use one can of frosting for (I believe) one 9in round cake.  And yes, the chocolate tip should work!
